            yeah, so it turns out, I may have knuckled 'em into payin' me. I filled out the forms last week... though I do need one more signature (of course).

                  it's traditional for the professors to pay their grad students to do research. that's how we can pay our tuition and rent etc. However, it's also traditional (at least among some professors) for them to resist it every step of the way.

                    I noticed it's becoming more and more traditional for them to fight the awarding of higher degrees too. Did you have that problem? I've got a friend going through redtape in Mexico over an issue as to whether she failed a class or not. She says she didn't - they said they'll look into it - nothing's being done. She tells me she filed paperwork 5 times and she's still waiting.
